About the Artist

Mary-Elizabeth Eddlestone is a long-time resident of idyllic Ithaca, New York, where Cayuga Lake, one of the beautiful Finger Lakes, is framed by steep hills upon which rest such fine educational institutions as Cornell University and Ithaca College, and is fed by more than 100 waterfalls. It's difficult not to find inspiration when surrounded by such beauty, a sentiment often repeated among the large community of artists in Ithaca and the Finger Lakes area.

Mary-Elizabeth has been fascinated by rocks and gems from the earliest days of childhood and has been in love with art of all forms just as long.  While her heart longed to pursue a career in fine arts, her practical and loving father reminded her of the benefits of a regular-paying job so she has long cultivated both her left- and right-brain talents, using her liberal arts undergraduate education at Mount Holyoke as an opportunity to study not only mathematics and economics, but languages and fine arts, such as bronze casting and metal working with her late mentor Leonard DeLonga. Even while pursing graduate courses at Cornell University in resource economics and quantitative methods, she still took time to paint, write and make jewelry. Even now, she masquerades by day as a software applications developer and technical writer, but her heart still belongs to art.

Like a magpie who loves all things shiny, Mary-Elizabeth's love of gemstones, color and metal logically led to an insatiable need to explore and create jewelry. She works in several media and here at Noble Gems you will find examples of her work in sterling and fine silver.  The discovery of precious metal clay and the art of chainmaille have caused her to spend countless hours in euphoric creativity, especially when she is able to combine them with gemstones and some of the finest handmade lampwork beads she can find, having pledged fealty to some of the world's finest glass artists. She is passionately working toward her goal of being a full-time artist.

One of Mary-Elizabeth's other passions is helping people, whether it's teaching athletics to people with disabilities, advocating for the hungry and working poor, supporting cancer research, finding loving homes for animals or helping people in times of crisis.  You will find some jewelry items for sale on this site to help specific causes, but a portion of each and every purchase is set aside for charitable works.
